Motorcyclist Killed in Collision on I-580 Near Grant Line Road
ALAMEDA COUNTY, Calif. (Nov. 7, 2024) — A fatal motorcycle crash involving hit-and-run drivers happened Wednesday night on the eastbound I-580 or Highway 580 in Alameda County.
The traffic accident occurred around 7:40 p.m. on Nov. 6th, near the Stone Cut railroad overcrossing, according to the California Highway Patrol.
A drivers of a big-rig truck, an SUV, and the motorcyclist were traveling along the I-580 when they collided, just west of Grant Line Road, the report said.
The rider went down in traffic lanes and suffered severe injuries. The unidentified motorcyclist later died from their injuries.
CHP officers investigating the crash believe a driver in a gold SUV, possibly an older Lexus model, was driving recklessly and weaving in and out of traffic prior to the crash.
It’s believed that the SUV may have sideswiped the motorcycle ride who was splitting lanes.
The impact caused the motorcycle to go down and the rider was thrown into the roadway where they wound up underneath a passing big-rig truck.
Both the drivers of the big-rig truck and the gold SUV stopped after the crash, but then they both fled the scene and failed to contact authorities.
Police are on the lookout for the two suspects. One was the gold SUV and the other was a big-rig truck that may have been hauling a white shipping container with red lettering on a flatbed trailer.
