Man Killed in Crash on Highway 101 in Palo Alto
PALO ALTO, Calif. (May 31, 2024) – One person died early Friday in a collision on northbound Highway 101 near the San Antonio Road on ramp in Palo Alto.
The deadly, three-vehicle crash occurred at around 2:55 a.m. on May 31st, according to the California Highway Patrol.
Authorities report a driver in a red Hyundai SUV pulled over for a car issue. However, the vehicle apparently veered back into traffic lanes and was hit from behind by a driver in a silver sedan.
The driver of the SUV exited the vehicle just before a tractor struck it and the pedestrian was caught up and dragged with the vehicle.
The Palo Alto Fire Department responded, but unfortunately, the young man who was driving the SUV suffered major injuries and died on the scene.
The Santa Clara Sheriff Coroner will identify the driver after notifying his family members. The victim is a man who is in his mid to late 20s. It’s unknown if there were others who were injured in the crash at this time.
All three vehicles were towed from the scene for evidence. The silver sedan and the red SUV both had major front-end damage.
Finally, investigators are working to determine fault for the crash and closed down traffic lanes on the northbound side of Highway 101.
