Deadly, Wrong-Way Crash 241 Toll Road, Santiago Canyon Road in Orange

Fatal Crash Shuts Down Northbound SR-241 Near Santiago Canyon Road
ORANGE (May 12, 2025) – A fatal wrong-way crash involving multiple vehicles shut down northbound lanes of State Route 241 near Santiago Canyon Road early Saturday morning, according to the California Highway Patrol (CHP).

The crash was reported at approximately 1:14 a.m. on May 11th, and involved at least two vehicles, a black BMW 335 and a dark-colored Honda Civic. The impact left one of the vehicles overturned, and one person was reportedly trapped inside. CHP classified the incident as a major collision, with the driver from the Honda confirmed dead.
Emergency crews responded quickly, and five people from the BMW sustained injuries. The severity of the other occupants’ conditions has not been released. The coroner was called to the scene at 1:44 a.m.
All northbound lanes were temporarily closed just south of Santiago Canyon Road, with a SigAlert issued at 1:37 a.m. Authorities later opened the No. 3 lane to ease traffic, while lanes 1 and 2 remained flared off for investigation and cleanup. Traffic was diverted from northbound SR-241 to southbound SR-133 and other nearby routes.
The roadway was fully cleared and reopened by approximately 3:50 a.m.
The cause of the crash is under investigation. No further details, including the identity of the deceased, have been released at this time.
