Suspect Arrested in Deadly Hit-and-run
RIALTO, Calif. (August 18, 2023) — DeAngelo Banks, 37, of Fontana, died in a hit-and-run pedestrian accident on Aug. 13th on Rialto Avenue, just east of Spruce Street in Rialto.
Later, the suspect, identified as Bryan Perez, 23, of Rialto, was arrested following an investigation by the CHP and Rialto police.
The deadly crash occurred around 4:37 a.m. on August 13th, according to the Fontana News Herald.
Rialto Police Vehicle Hits Pedestrian in Roadway
The victim was struck and killed by a motorist who fled the scene. Next, a Rialto police officer patrolling the area accidentally ran over the deceased man in the roadway. The patrol officer turned back to investigate what happened and discovered the man’s body, according to the Rialto Police Department.
Police initiated an investigation into the case and determined another driver hit DeAngelo Banks and fled the scene.
Rialto police requested investigators with the California Highway Patrol respond to help with the investigation. The CHP and the Rialto P.D.’s Major Accident Investigation Team conducted separate investigations into the case.
Investigators recovered both evidence and video surveillance footage from the area. They determined the suspect struck Banks as he walked eastbound in the traffic lanes on Rialto Avenue. An eastbound driver struck the victim and later on August 15th police located a gray 2003 Ford Expedition that was involved in the collision. The alleged driver, Bryan Perez, was later arrested and it was determined he was unlicensed.
The case remains under investigation.
