2 Killed in Olivehurst Car Accident on Highway 65
Olivehurst, Calif. (September 16, 2021) – Deanna Hernandez, and Cary Ojeda, both died in an Olivehurst head-on crash on Highway 65.
The deadly crash happened about 2:08 p.m. on Wednesday, Sept. 15th near Highway 70, according to the California Highway Patrol.
The driver of a stolen Ford truck towing a trailer reportedly crashed into a Dodge Durango occupied by Deanna Hernandez and Cary Ojeda.
Yuba County Sheriff’s officers were pursuing the suspect in the truck northbound on Highway 70. The driver reportedly drifted into the southbound lane where the Ford crashed head-on into the Dodge Durango.
The Dodge overturned and trapped both Deanna Hernandez, and her passenger, Cary Ojeda, according to Action News Now.
Paramedics transported the mother and her daughter to the hospital where they died.
Meanwhile, the stolen truck’s trailer also struck a Chevy Silverado during the crash, but that motorist was uninjured.
Chase Hammonds, 25, who was driving the stolen Ford, fled the scene on foot. Police later caught up with him and he was arrested.
Finally, the crash investigation is ongoing.
