Bicycle Rider Killed in Crash; Suspected DUI Driver Arrested
RANCHO CUCAMONGA, Calif. (June 30, 2022) — Debbie Morgan-Alam died Saturday when a suspected DUI driver struck her while riding a bicycle on the Pacific Electric Trail at Archibald Avenue in Rancho Cucamonga.
The collision occurred about 6:50 p.m. on June 25th when driver Jessica Carrillo, 19, allegedly ran a red light as she drove south on Archibald Avenue. She reportedly struck the woman on the bike who was riding westbound on the trail and crossing Archibald Avenue, according to the Daily Bulletin. The bicycle rider, a longtime member of the Ride Yourself Fit group, was pronounced dead at the scene.
The 19-year old San Bernardino woman stopped and cooperated with the Rancho Cucamonga Police Department at the scene. Police conducted sobriety tests on the driver and reported she had a blood-alcohol content above 0.08 percent.
Authorities arrested the teenager on suspicion of gross vehicular manslaughter, DUI causing injury and DUI causing injury with a blood alcohol content over .08 percent.
