Woman Struck, Killed on Highway 99 in Galt
GALT, Calif. (July 19, 2021) — Debra Arnette Jackson, 65, of Galt, died in a pedestrian accident after multiple collisions Sunday on Highway 99.
A driver attempting to avoid debris in the roadway from an earlier crash, swerved and struck the Galt woman as she walked back to her vehicle. Upon impact, Debra Jackson got thrown into a nearby field. Sadly, she suffered major injuries and died on scene.
The fatal Galt crash happened about 5:14 a.m. on July 18th on the northbound side of Highway 99 near Mingo Road, according to the California Highway Patrol.
Debra Arnette Jackson Killed; Suspected DUI Driver Arrested
Prior to the deadly pedestrian collision, Estevan Mora, 25, of Stockton, was heading northbound on Highway 99. He reportedly made an unsafe turn and crashed his Ford Mustang into a center divider. Metal and plastic debris from the barriers reportedly fell into the northbound lanes of Highway 99.
Next, just a few minutes later, a 63-year-old Ione woman in a Toyota Corolla hit the debris. She subsequently pulled over and stopped on the right shoulder.
Debra Arnette Jackson’s Chevrolet Malibu also ran over the debris just moments later. She also pulled over behind the Toyota on the right shoulder. At some point, Debra Jackson exited her vehicle and walked over to the driver in the Toyota. After the two women discussed what happened, Jackson walked back to her car. On the way, an oncoming Toyota Camry struck the woman. The 43-year-old man driving the Camry had swerved to avoid the debris in the road. He lost control of his car and hit the pedestrian.
Meanwhile, Estevan Mora appeared to be intoxicated. Police subsequently arrested on suspicion of DUI.
Investigators questioned all drivers involved in the fatal Galt crash.
