San Jose Woman, 58, Victim in Fatal Golf Cart Accident; Driver Arrested for DUI
SAN ANDREAS (June 3, 2017)- According to California Highway Patrol, a woman identified as Debra Bedard, 58, of San Jose, was the victim involved in a fatal DUi golf cart accident Saturday evening.
The incident was reported at roughly 11:00 p.m. when the driver of an EZ-Go golf cart, Richard Clarke, 57, of San Jose, had been operating the cart on Camanche Parkway. He was accompanied by Debra Bedard who had been holding several wine glasses.
Per CHP officials, Clarke made a sudden turn which caused Bedard to fall out of the golf cart onto the wine glass shards which shattered below her.
Authorities confirmed that she sadly died and was pronounced at the scene.
Police officials confirmed that Clarke had been operating the golf cart while under the influence and was subsequently arrested and taken to jail.
No further details have been released at this time.
Police will investigate any accident involving a fatality in an effort to determine liability, but this should not preclude a victim’s family from having their own independent attorney investigate who is responsible for their loved one’s death. Based on this news report, it appears that the driver of the golf cart, Richard Clark, of the gold cart will be held responsible as he faces DUI charges after being arrested for suspicion of operating the golf cart while under the influence. We trust officials are looking into these and other factors in order to determine precisely what occurred here and why.
In such cases where negligence or wrongdoing has been confirmed to have been a factor, families of deceased victims including Debra Bedard for this particular incident have the right to file a wrongful death lawsuit against the at-fault party seeking compensation for damages including funeral costs, lost future income and loss of love and companionship.
