ESCONDIDO, Calif. (June 1, 2018) — A 32-year-old Del Mar woman died early Friday morning when she was struck by an oncoming big rig truck on the Interstate 15 after exiting her vehicle on the right shoulder following a minor crash, according to the San Diego Medical Examiner.
The crash took place about 1:48 a.m. this morning. The woman reportedly had a minor single-vehicle collision and pulled off to the right shoulder of the freeway. It’s unknown where she was standing at the time the semi-tractor trailer truck struck the woman. Paramedics responded to the scene to help her, but confirmed her death upon their arrival.
Fatal Accident Investigation
Police are investigating this collision to determine fault. At this time, we do not know where she was standing when the collision took place, but we do know it was dark outside and possibly difficult for other drivers to see her. The investigation will seek to find out what the path of the truck driver was and whether other factors contributed to the collision such as drowsy or distracted driving.
Our prayers go out to those affected by this horrible crash.
