DELANO, California (September 13, 2015) — A pedestrian was struck and killed by at least two drivers early Sunday morning on the northbound State Route Highway 99, just south of Woollomes Avenue, a California Highway Patrol report said.
The fatal crash took place at 5:36 a.m. when CHP officers reported the pedestrian was struck by one car and then a second vehicle and possibly a truck. One of the vehicles caught on fire after the crash. There were two separate incidents involving four motorists. The man who was killed was identified as Jesus Garcia, 27, of Bakersfield. He allegedly was involved in a collision with another motorists and was struck as he got out of his vehicle to help the other driver. The Delano Police Department sent three patrol car units to the scene to slow down traffic due to the two blocked lanes.
Three people were taken by ambulance to a local hospital for injuries. A police investigation into liability for the crash is underway.
