Denise Courtis, Robert Swarens and Alejandro Santiago Killed New Cuyama Head-On Crash

NEW CUYAMA (December 4, 2017) – Three people died after a head-on crash on Highway 166 Sunday afternoon, December 3, according to KEYT and Santa Maria Times.

The deceased parties have been identified as 54-year-old Denise Courtis, 61-year-old Robert Swarens, and 19-year-0ld Alejandro Santiago.

As per the reports, California Highway Patrol said Courtis and Swarens riding a 2002 Ford Explorer east on Highway 166 were struck head-on by a 2011 Ford Escape.

The Escape driven by Santiago was going west on the highway when for an unknown reason the Santa Maria man swerved to the left and collided with the Explorer. The collision occurred at 4:15 p.m., east of Bell Drive.

All three reportedly suffered major blunt-force trauma and died at the scene. Courtis, of Bakersfield, was the driver of the Ford at the time while Swarens, of Citrus Heights, was a passenger.

The cause of the incident remains under investigation.
