Tragically, Victim of Crash Took a Ride with a Friend
SAN MARCOS, Calif. (May 20, 2024) — Dennis Lee Rockefeller, 64, of Oceanside, died following a crash on the 78 Freeway one week ago near Las Posas Road in San Marcos.
The deadly collision occurred at around 9:03 a.m. on Monday, May 13th, according to the San Diego Medical Examiner.
Tragically, the victim was transported to Palomar Medical Center in Escondido where he died at 9:36 a.m. the same day.
Apparently, the Oceanside man accepted a ride from a friend in a Lincoln sedan in the eastbound lanes of State Route 78 in San Marcos.
Unfortunately, the driver began to make a left-hand turn towards the No. 1 lane, but she saw a motorcycle rider approaching and instead veered to the right. The Lincoln struck the outside shoulder barrier and the center barrier before coming to a stop in traffic lanes.
Meanwhile, some bystanders called 911 for help and managed to get the victim out of the car and someone began providing CPR to Dennis Rockefeller.
Paramedics responded and continued to provide lifesaving measures in the ambulance on the way to Palomar Medical Center.
The victim died from his injuries at the hospital shortly after his arrival, the report said.
Finally, investigators with the California Highway Patrol are working on the case to determine fault.
