Dennis Wendt and Roger Harwood Killed in Highway 101 Crash
MIRANDA, Humboldt County (July 25, 2017) – Two men were killed and one was injured in a car accident on Highway 101 early Friday, July 21, according to the Times Standard.
The solo-vehicle crash took place at around 3:20 a.m. near Maple Hills Road.
As per the article, California Highway Patrol said a 2002 GMC Yukon was going north on Highway 101 when for an unknown reason it went off the highway and struck a light pole.
The GMC then slammed into a redwood tree and overturned, coming to a complete stop on Maple Hills Road.
Miranda Fatal Car Accident
CHP affirmed that the two passengers in the GMC suffered fatal injuries and died at the scene. They were identified as 69-year-old Dennis Wendt and 67-year-old Roger Harwood.
Wendt was a renowned businessman and developer who owned Wendt Construction Company in Fortuna while Harwood was a well-established Fortuna community member who umpired local ball games and volunteered with city parks and recreation programs.
Meanwhile, the driver of the car, 60-year-old Steven Murray, was transported to St. Joseph Hospital in Eureka with moderate injuries. He was listed in stable condition as of Friday morning. All three men are from Fortuna.
The incident remains under investigation.
