Derek Ellis, 54, Injured in Sonora Crash on Tuolumne Road Near Soulsbyville Road
SONORA, CA (March 31, 2021) – Derek Ellis was hospitalized after a DUI crash along Tuolumne Road in Sonora.
The California Highway Patrol identified the 54-year-old Sonora man as the victim of the wreck which occurred on Monday afternoon.
The incident happened on March 29 when Derek Ellis stopped his 2009 Dodge SUV in an attempt to make a left turn into a private driveway.
Speeding Driver Hits Another Car in Sonora
At the same time, a 1990 Toyota pickup was traveling at a high rate of speed east on Tuolumne Road. The speeding car failed to stop for Derek Ellis and struck the rear of his Dodge.
Firefighters along with the paramedics then responded to the scene, just west of Soulsbyville Road. They found Ellis and the two occupants of the truck injured as a result of the collision.
Medical personnel took Ellis to a local hospital for treatment of minor injuries. My Mother Lode reported that the male driver of the Toyota was under the influence of alcohol at the time.
Authorities soon arrested and took him into custody for felony DUI. The Sonora crash is still under investigation.
