1 Killed, 4 Injured in Fairfield Crash on Eastbound Highway 12

FAIRFIELD (May 8, 2019) –  Derek Phillips, 53, and Asha Riley, 22, Olanyinka Akanji, 27, and Vernon Miller, 54, were all injured in a traffic collision Wednesday afternoon on Highway 12 that also left a 21-year-old man dead.

The California Highway Patrol reported that a white Mercedes service van driven by Miller rear-ended a Volkswagen and other vehicles that were stopped at a red light at Beck Avenue. Akanji, who is from Los Angeles, was driving a Hyundai, Phillips, who is from Fairfield, was driving the BMW and Riley, from Fairfield, was in an Audi.

The collision that was reported about 3:30 p.m. in the eastbound lanes of Highway 12.

Paramedics responded and pronounced the Volkswagen’s driver dead at the scene. The victim, Sun Shawn Hill, 21, was from Suisun City, and was set to become a father in two months, according to reports by KCRA and the San Francisco Chronicle.

Three of the injured were treated for minor injuries and Miller was taken to a hospital for moderate injuries.
