Man, 60, Killed in Crash on PCH is Identified
MALIBU, Calif. (May 15, 2024) — Derek Schimming, 60, died in a two-vehicle crash Tuesday on Pacific Coast Highway (PCH) at Winding Way in Malibu, just east of the Paradise Cove area.
The traffic collision occurred on State Route 1 at around 12:54 p.m. on May 14th, near the entrance to parking for Escondido Falls, according to the California Highway Patrol.
CHP officials reported the drivers of a white van and a grey sedan were involved. One of the drivers was reportedly a female who was pulled out of her vehicle by good Samaritans.
Police issued a SigAlert due to both lanes being blocked by the vehicles after the crash.
Paramedics responded to the scene, but pronounced Derek Schimming deceased on the scene. He was later identified by the Los Angeles County Sheriff Coroner. It’s unknown if others were hospitalized.
Investigators are working to determine fault for the fatal Malibu crash on PCH.
