DESERT CENTER, California (July 20, 2015) — A pickup truck driver and passenger were injured Sunday afternoon when the bridge they were driving over on the Interstate 10 Freeway collapsed beneath them.
Police and Riverside County Fire Department paramedics rushed to the scene about 4:43 p.m. to cut and rescue two people who were trapped in the vehicle after the roadway collapsed into the water beneath them near Eagle Mountain Road. The bridge is located near mile post 188.
By 5:13 p.m., the passenger had been freed and was out of the truck, but the driver remained trapped.
Police reported the bridge fell down due to flooding.
