DESERT CENTER, California (December 28, 2015) — As many as 14 people were injured Saturday afternoon in a collision involving four motorists on the westbound Interstate 10 Freeway at Ford Dry Lake, a California Highway Patrol report said.
The crash was reported at 1:30 p.m. and paramedics with the CAL FIRE/Riverside County Fire Department responded to help those who were hurt. Paramedics transported two people who suffered moderate injuries and five with minor injuries to a local hospital for treatment. Seven others were hurt, but declined transportation to a hospital.
The crash took place during heavy 45-mph winds that picked up sand and made visibility on the freeway difficult for drivers.
P0lice declared the situation a mass casualty due to the extent of people injured.
