Lake Elsinore Man, 57, Identified as Crash Victim
LAKE ELSINORE, Calif. (Sept. 10, 2024) — Desmond Gallagher, 57, of Lake Elsinore, died in a hit-and-run pedestrian accident Thursday night on Highway 74 at Ardenwood Way.
The collision occurred at around 9:30 p.m. on Sept. 5th, according to the California Highway Patrol dispatch.
A woman driving a 2018 Nissan Versa reportedly struck the Lake Elsinore man in the westbound lanes and someone called 911 for help. The driver failed to pull over and was followed by a witness to her home, according to the Riverside County Sheriff’s Department.
Police arrested Mitzi Christina Reagers, 42, at her home on Ocotillo Drive in Lake Elsinore, according to The Patch. She was booked on gross vehicular manslaughter while intoxicated and hit-and-run causing death. The suspect was booked into Southwest Detention Center, but later posted a $75,000 bail bond and was released on Friday.
Meanwhile, paramedics from Cal Fire Riverside located the man’s body in the westbound lanes of the roadway, but despite efforts to save his life, he died at the scene. He was later identified as Desmond Gallagher.
A tow truck removed the damaged vehicle for evidence and investigators are working to determine liability for the pedestrian accident on Highway 74.
