Devon Fontenette-Noack, 20, Killed in Merced County Car Accident on Highway 140
MERCED COUNTY (May 6, 2019) – A passenger killed after an alleged DUI hit-and-run crash along Highway 140 Saturday has been identified as Devon Fontenette-Noack.
Merced County Sheriff’s Office said the 20-year-old Winton man was one of the victims of the tragic accident which was reported on May 4 at 6:54 a.m., just west of Sultana Drive.
California Highway Patrol reported that a 2006 Ford Focus was allegedly speeding east on Highway 140 when its driver, 19-year-old Tristan Shelton, lost control of the car.
The Ford, which was traveling at about 75 mph at the time, swerved left into the westbound lane and continued into a dirt field off the north shoulder of the highway.

According to Merced Sun-Star, the Focus ultimately rolled over four to five times and came to a stop on its wheels. Fontenette-Noack was found unresponsive in the driver’s side back seat following the wreck.
CHP affirmed that the young man was pronounced dead at the scene. The other two occupants of the overturned vehicle sustained minor injuries but declined medical treatment.
Meanwhile, Shelton was seen fleeing on foot after the tragic incident. He was arrested but was initially taken to Mercy Medical Center to be treated for mild wounds.
The Merced man was booked into the Merced County Jail on charges of vehicular homicide, driving while under the influence and felony hit-and-run resulting in death with a bail set at nearly $300,000.
