Woman Arrested Fatal Hit-Run Crash at Pomona Taco Stand
POMONA, Calif. (Oct. 19, 2022) – Diana Beatriz Martinezumana, 25, of Pomona, was arrested on manslaughter charges after deadly hit-and-run crash into a Pomona taco stand that killed one man and injured a dozen others.
Gilberto Cazares Payan, 52, suffered fatal injuries in the crash. Payan, who is originally from Sinaloa, Mexico, was at the taco stand buying dinner for his wife and four children.
The District Attorneys Office charged the woman with one count of manslaughter, two counts of hit-and-run resulting in death or serious injury and eight counts of reckless driving causing injuries.
Additionally, the deadly crash occurred about 7:45 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 14th at West Holt Avenue and Dudley Street, near Kiwanis Park, according to the Pomona Police Department.
Diana Martinezumana is free after posting a bond, but it’s unknown when her arraignment will be scheduled.
The Pomona woman was heading eastbound on Holt Avenue when she veered into oncoming traffic before crashing into the taco stand, authorities said. She fled the scene, but roughly an hour later returned to the crash scene and cooperated with police.
Investigators continue to work on the case.
