Diego Jose Gutierrez Killed in Head-on Crash on Interstate 15 in Escondido

Deadly Wrong-way Collision on I-15, Deer Springs Road
SAN DIEGO COUNTY, Calif. (April 3, 2025) — Drivers, Diego Jose Gutierrez, 36, of Escondido, and Jesus Rivera Robles, 33, both died early Sunday in a head-on crash on the southbound I-15 Freeway near Deer Springs Road in Escondido.
Authorities responded to the deadly crash and found both motorists unconscious and trapped in their vehicles around 2:22 a.m. on March 30th, according to the Times of San Diego.
Jesus Rivera Robles was driving a BMW northbound on the southbound I-15 freeway when he collided with a southbound Volkswagen driven by Diego Jose Gutierrez, just north of the Deer Springs Road exit.
Furthermore, several other vehicles ran over debris scattered across traffic lanes of the freeway, the report said.
Paramedics and other first responders extricated both of the drivers from their vehicles, but they did not survive. Gutierrez died at 2:46 a.m. and Robles died at 3:03 a.m. at the scene.
Finally, the California Highway Patrol issued a traffic alert and closed down the southbound lanes of the I-15 Freeway, just south of the 76 due to the crash and investigation.
