Diego Mateo Identified as Bicyclist Killed in Crash at 9th Avenue and Spruce Street
ESCONDIDO, Calif. (March 30, 2021) — Diego Mateo, 33, of Escondido, died Friday in Escondido after he was struck by a car while riding a bicycle at 9th Avenue and Spruce Street.
The fatal Escondido bicycle accident happened about 7:04 p.m. on March 26th, according to the San Diego Medical Examiner.
A vehicle traveling westbound on 9th Avenue struck the Escondido man as he rode his bicycle, the report said. The bicyclist reportedly swerved in front of a vehicle prior to the collision. Diego Mateo fell of the bike and suffered major injuries.

Paramedics rushed him to Palomar Medical Center, but sadly he died at 7:33 p.m. the same night. Later, the coroner identified Diego Mateo as the bicycle rider who died in the Escondido collision.
The Escondido Police Department is heading up the investigation into liability for the crash.
