Driver Arrested on DUI Charges After Palm Desert Crash
PALM DESERT, Calif. (Oct. 1, 2018) — Dilip Samaranayake, 33, of Cathedral City, has been arrested on DUI charges following a collision on Monterey Avenue.
The Palm Desert Police Department responded to Monterey Ave, just north of Frank Sinatra where two vehicles were involved in a crash.
Upon their arrival at the scene, a red Chevrolet truck was found facing southbound in the northbound lanes and a white BMW was found about 400 yards north on Monterey Avenue.
Dilip Samaranayake had been driving the BMW and had been seen speeding northbound on Monterey Avenue prior to the crash, police said. His vehicle collided with the truck, causing it to spin and lose control. Samaranayake did not initially stop after the collision, but due to extensive damage to his vehicle he was unable to leave before police arrived.
Police investigating the collision determined that Samaranayake was apparently driving under the influence of alcohol. Police obtained a McNealy warrant to administer a blood test to confirm whether or not alcohol was a factor. Samaranayake was taken to a local hospital before being booked at a county jail in Indio. It is unknown at this time if anyone else was hurt in the crash.
Anyone with information on this incident is encouraged to call the Palm Desert Police Department at (760) 826-1600.

There are many steps that should be taken following a collision to ensure your legal rights are protected, but this can vary depending on the circumstances.
An injured person should seek out immediate and ongoing medical care until they are completely better. If someone has died, a wrongful death claim may be pursued by surviving family members against those responsible and or their insurance company.
