Bicyclist Injured in Dog Attack, Crash on Hidden Valley Road
WATSONVILLE, Calif. (Sept. 22, 2022) — A dog attack on a man riding a bicycle caused the rider to crash in front of 401 Hidden Valley Road Thursday morning in Watsonville.
The incident took place about 9 a.m. on Sept. 22nd, according to the CHP.
The victim was riding a bicycle at speeds estimated to be about 25 to 30 miles per hour down a hill when the large black dog ran out towards him, according to the California Highway Patrol. The bicyclist crashed and skidded off the roadway and both the rider and the dog were injured.
Paramedics responded to the victim’s residence and transported the injured man to Natividad Medical Center in Salinas for treatment of extensive injuries. The CHP report stated the person may require surgery. The report did not provide the victim of the dog attack‘s name or age.
The dog’s owner told authorities the “dog got in the rider’s way and caused him to go down,” but their story was different than the rider who claims the dog “attacked him,” police said.
The report stated the dog also suffered injuries in the incident, but there are no further details.
Investigators are working on the case.
