Don Miller, 55, Killed; Cameron Hunt, 26, Injured in Head-on Crash Trinity County
SALYER, California (July 28, 2017) – A motorcyclist identified as Don Miller, 55, of Willow Creek has died and Cameron Hunt, 26, of Bayside was injured Sunday in a head-on collision on Highway 299, near the Francis B. Matthews Rest Area, according to the California Highway Patrol.
The crash was reported about 3:30 p.m. between the two motorists.
Miller was reportedly driving a 2003 Yamaha motorcycle when for unknown reasons he swerved into oncoming traffic and struck a Toyota driven by Hunt head-on. The bike went all the way off the roadway where the rider was thrown off.
Investigation into Highway 299 Accident
Police are investigating what led to the crash, but details were not disclosed at this time. A major collision involving injuries and/or death can take weeks or months to determine the cause. Factors that police will consider is the point of impact, whether drugs or alcohol were involved, medication, fatigue, mechanical failure and even road conditions. Witnesses will be sought in an effort to piece together what happened.
