DUI Driver Donald Lee Farmer Jr., 19, Kills Father and Son in Poway Crash
POWAY, CA (May 4, 2021) – Authorities detained Donald Lee Farmer Jr. after a fatal DUI crash near Poway High School on Espola Road.
Officers determined that the 19-year-old man was under the influence of drugs when the wreck occurred on February 12.
The incident began when Donald Lee Farmer Jr. was driving a Mercedes sedan recklessly south on Espola Road. At the same time, a Toyota Camry was pulling out of the north parking lot at Poway High School .
The Toyota began making a left turn onto northbound Espola. Deputies said Donald Farmer then broadsided the driver’s side of the Camry.
Steve Pirolli, 54; Son, 14, Victims in Car Collision
Paramedics pronounced the driver of the Toyota, 54-year-old Steve Pirolli, dead at the scene. Medical personnel rushed his passenger, his 14-year-old son, to the Rady Children’s Hospital where he died.
The San Diego Union-Tribune and ABC 10 News wrote that the accident took place shortly after 7 p.m. in the 15000 block of Espola Road.
Meanwhile, Farmer was taken to the Palomar Medical Center in Escondido with non-life-threatening injuries. Authorities soon arrested and booked him on charges of gross vehicular manslaughter, DUI causing bodily injury, and driving without a license.
They held him on $250,000 bail. The fatal Poway DUI crash is still under investigation.
