Donald Mayo, 77; and Denise Mayo, 67, Seriously Injured in Highway 20 Crash
NEVADA COUNTY, CA (June 5, 2022) – A fatal crash seriously injured Donald Mayo and Denise Mayo on Highway 20 in Nevada County.
The California Highway Patrol identified the Live Oak residents as victims of the wreck which took place on Saturday near Grass Valley.
The incident happened when Donald Mayo was driving a 2022 Ford F-350 with Denise Mayo and another passenger west on Highway 20.
At the same time, a 2002 Acura TL was traveling at a high rate of speed east. The Acura then failed to negotiate a right curve in the roadway.
1 Killed in Wreck
In the process, the car crossed into the westbound lane and slammed head-on into the truck with a livestock trailer attached to it. The two crashed east of Chalk Bluff Road.
Donald Mayo, 77, sustained major injuries and Denise Mayo, 67, survived with moderate injuries. Paramedics rushed them to the Sutter Roseville Medical Center for treatment.
Medical personnel treated the third occupant of the pickup for the minor wounds he obtained in the collision. Meanwhile, the speeding driver ended up hospitalized with major injuries.
CHP confirmed that the 37-year-old Sacramento woman riding the Acura died at the scene. The Union and FOX 40 News wrote that the accident occurred on June 4 at around 6:30 p.m.
Officers forced both lanes of the road to shut down for two hours following the wreck. The Highway 20 crash is still under investigation.
