2 Killed in Crash on Highway 50 Near Echo Summit Are Identified
EL DORADO COUNTY, Calif. (Dec. 20, 2024) — Two people killed in crash on Highway 50 near Echo Summit over Thanksgiving were identified as Donald Smith and Peggy Liu.
The traffic accident occurred around 5:30 p.m. on Nov. 28th, near Audrain Way, roughly six miles west of Meyers, according to the California Highway Patrol.
CHP officials reported a westbound Toyota SUV reportedly crossed into oncoming traffic and collided with an eastbound Chevrolet SUV driven by Donald Smith, 84, of Wellington, Nevada.
Both Peggy Liu, 50, of Fremont, who was a passenger in the Toyota, and Donald Smith, died in the crash, but the 28-year-old man driving the Toyota survived with major injuries.
Paramedics transported the man and three other passengers from his SUV with moderate injuries to a hospital.
