Double Fatal Oceanside Crash State Route Highway 76, Canyon Drive
2 Killed, 2 Injured in 3-Vehicle Collision on State Route 76
OCEANSIDE, Calif. (Nov. 20, 2023) — A suspected DUI driver and their passenger both died in a 3-vehicle Oceanside crash on State Route Highway 76 and Canyon Drive.
The deadly crash occurred at around 7:36 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 17th, according to the Times of San Diego.
The two people were traveling together in a gray Mercedes sedan northbound on Canyon Drive when the driver allegedly drove through a red traffic light, according to the Oceanside Police Department.
That’s when the car was broadsided by an oncoming U-Haul truck as it headed eastbound on State Route 76, the report said.
The truck and car became entangled together and collided with a white Kia sedan that was stopped in the left-hand turn lane on Canyon Drive at the intersection. The Kia was waiting to turn left onto westbound Highway 76.
Both the driver and passenger from the Mercedes died at the scene, but the U-Haul truck driver and the Kia driver were treated on scene for minor injuries.
Investigators say the driver from the Mercedes was likely under the influence of alcohol at the time of the collision.
The Oceanside Police Department’s Major Accident Investigation Team continues to work on the case.
