Doug Allmon Critically Injured in Bakersfield Hit-and-Run Crash
BAKERSFIELD, CA (May 5, 2021) – A DUI hit-and-run crash near Stockdale Highway and California Avenue critically injured Doug Allmon in Bakersfield.
Kern Golden Empire wrote that the family members of the victim set up a GoFundMe page to help cover his future medical needs.
The incident happened on Saturday night when Doug Allmon and a woman were riding their bicycles in Bakersfield. A vehicle approached and struck the two bicyclists in the process.
Police said the male driver involved hit them near the intersection of Stockdale Highway and California Avenue. The accident occurred on May 1 at around 9:15 p.m.
DUI Driver Hits Bicyclists, Flees Scene
Firefighters along with the paramedics responded to the scene. They found both bike riders hurt on the road as a result of the collision.
Medical personnel rushed them to a hospital, where they listed Doug Allmon in critical condition. He underwent surgery while the other patient sustained non-life threatening injuries in the crash.
Meanwhile, police affirmed that the motorist did not stop to render aid to the cyclists and sped away. They soon located him and determined that he was under the influence when the collision took place.
Authorities arrested the man on suspicion of DUI resulting in injuries and hit-and-run involving serious bodily injury. The Bakersfield DUI hit-and-run case is still under investigation.
