Multiple Collisions on Rain-Soaked Roads and Freeways in the Bay Area
SAN FRANCISCO, Calif. (Feb. 14, 2019) — The CHP advised motorists to slow down today due to heavy rain, slick roads and flooded highways throughout the Bay area.
It was a wet Valentine’s Day on Thursday, leading to dozens of collisions including one on the Bay Bridge involving a box truck. The westbound lanes were blocked by the crash where the truck crashed into a barrier on the right side of the bridge.
Another crash was blocking lanes of northbound I-880 Freeway at High Street in Oakland. There were significant delays due to that collision.
Additionally, there was a 4-vehicle crash in the East Bay area on westbound Highway 24 near the Caldecott Tunnel. Two lanes were blocked and a few people suffered injuries in the collision.
Up in the North Bay area, CHP officials were warning drivers there was flooding on Highway 101 near Lucky Drive.
On the east side of the Bay in Newark, a Honda and a white van collided in the slow lanes on State Route 84 at Newark Boulevard about 10:37 a.m.
San Jose’s Interstate 280 Freeway had its share of collisions including one at 10:39 a.m. between a black Chevrolet sedan and a white van. The driver of the Chevy was taken to hospital for treatment of minor injuries.
In South San Francisco, a multi-vehicle collision left a pedestrian with minor injuries after a driver got out after a crash involving a grey Nissan Sentra, a red Honda Civic and other vehicles on the Interstate 280 Freeway north at Milbrae Avenue.
Further south on the Interstate 280 in San Mateo, two motorists went off the roadway about 11 a.m. First a small white SUV spun out on the rain-soaked road, over a guardrail, rolled over and went down an embankment. Just minutes later, a small white sedan also went off the freeway and into a field on the right shoulder. At least one person was complaining of pain after the collisions.
