Deadly Wrong-Way Driver Crash on Highway 198
KINGS COUNTY, Calif. (Dec. 4, 2023) – A fatal three-vehicle crash involving a wrong-way driver happened early Sunday on Highway 198 in Kings County.
A 24-year-old driver sustained fatal injuries when his Toyota collided head-on with a Ford F-250 pickup truck in the eastbound No. 1 lane of the highway, according to ABC 30 News.
It happened just before 2 a.m. on Dec. 3rd, 2023. The young man’s car was allegedly traveling in the wrong direction in the eastbound No. 1 lane of Highway 198, the report said. The Toyota collided with the pickup truck and caught on fire. Meanwhile, the truck overturned into the path of a Kia Soul.
The unidentified man driving the Toyota died at the scene of the crash.
Meanwhile, David Barajas, 27, who was driving the Ford truck sustained major injuries and was airlifted to the hospital. Also, two passengers who were with him were also taken to a hospital by ambulances.
Steven Mahoney, 63, and a passenger riding with him in the Kia, were both taken to a hospital with minor injuries.
Police are investigating whether drugs and or alcohol were a factor in the collision.
