Driver Killed After Crashing Into Tree on Mother Grundy Truck Trail

JAMUL, Calif. (May 30, 2025) — A driver was killed Friday morning in a solo-vehicle crash on a rural stretch of Mother Grundy Truck Trail just east of Jamul in eastern San Diego County, according to the California Highway Patrol.
The collision occurred around 11:15 a.m. on May 30th near the 2200 block of Mother Grundy Truck Trail, where a Ford F-150 pickup veered approximately 15 feet off the roadway and struck a tree on private property. First responders found the driver unconscious inside the vehicle, which had sustained major front-end damage.
Fire crews and paramedics launched an air ambulance in response, but the driver could not be revived and was pronounced dead at the scene. The identity of the deceased has not yet been released, pending notification of next of kin.
CHP logs indicate the crash may have involved a medical emergency, but the exact cause is under investigation. No other vehicles were involved.
“This tragic incident is a reminder that even a momentary health issue while driving can have fatal consequences,” said personal injury attorney James Johnson. “In rural areas where help can take longer to arrive, it’s especially important for drivers to be aware of their health and surroundings.”
The vehicle was towed by Precision Tow, and no road closures were reported due to the incident occurring on private property.
Authorities urge drivers in rural and winding areas like Mother Grundy Truck Trail to use extra caution and remain alert to both road and health conditions while behind the wheel.
