DUI Suspect Hits and Kills Toddler on 21st Avenue in Sacramento

Driver Who Struck Father and One-Year-Old Child is Arrested

SACRAMENTO, Calif. (Nov. 2, 2026) — A 1-year-old toddler is dead and her father was hospitalized after they were both struck by a suspected DUI driver Sunday on 21st Avenue near St. Mary Cemetery in south Sacramento.

The deadly pedestrian collision occurred around 4:45 p.m. on Nov. 1st, 2026, according to the Sacramento Police Department.

Detectives investigating the crash determined Miguel Guzman, 50, was allegedly driving under the influence when he struck the pedestrians in the 6700 block of 21st Avenue.

Paramedics responded and rushed the father and toddler to the hospital where the one-year-old later died from their injuries. The father was treated for moderate injuries.

Police determined the driver was intoxicated, and he was subsequently arrested on gross vehicular manslaughter while intoxicated and other DUI-related offenses before he was booked into the Sacramento County Main Jail.

Guzman is being held in lieu of $470,000 bail and is scheduled to appear in court on Tuesday afternoon for his arraignment.
