E-Bike Rider Killed in Hit-and-Run Crash on Balboa Avenue in Clairemont
Suspect in Mercedes E-Class Sought in Deadly Hit-and-Run Collision
SAN DIEGO, Calif. (April 3, 2025) — A 36-year-old man riding an e-bike died Saturday in Clairemont when he was struck by on Balboa Avenue by a hit-and-run driver.
The deadly collision occurred around 1:30 a.m. on March 29th, according to the San Diego Police Department.
Investigators are working to locate the suspect whose vehicle left behind clues with debris in the roadway including a right-side mirror, bumper, and lower front grill. Police believe the suspect’s vehicle was a gray 2-door or 4-door Mercedes E-Class sedan. It may also have a smashed windshield from the collision.
Police believe the westbound driver hit the e-bike rider from behind on Balboa Avenue near the Interstate 805 Freeway.
The motorist fled the scene without stopping to help the severely injured man who was eventually taken to a hospital where he died. The San Diego Medical Examiner will released the victim’s name after his family is notified.
Meanwhile, Crime Stoppers is offering up to a $1,000 reward for tips that help police identify the vehicle and driver.
