East Village Bicycle and Bus Crash Park Boulevard Near Broadway

Bicycle Rider Seriously Injured in East Village Bus Crash on Park Boulevard

SAN DIEGO, CA (June 27, 2021) –  A bicycle rider was seriously injured after a crash with a bus on Park Boulevard in the East Village neighborhood.

According to an article published by The San Diego Union-Tribune, the accident took place on Sunday evening. Officers reported the collision at around 7:40 p.m.

The incident happened when a 33-year-old man was riding a bicycle south on the sidewalk in East Village. The cyclist then entered the crosswalk on Park Boulevard near Broadway.

In the process, he ran into the side of a Metropolitan Transit System bus. Police said the rider went under the front right wheel of the bus upon impact.

Bicyclist and MTS Bus Collide

Firefighters along with the paramedics soon arrived at the scene. They found the victim who sustained an open fracture to his ankle as a result of the collision.

Medical personnel then took the patient to a hospital for treatment. Officials did not disclose his name and condition at this time.

Meanwhile, police forced a portion of Park Boulevard to shut down following the bicycle crash. They did not mention if the driver of the MTS bus immediately stopped after the East Village collision.

Authorities are still determining the cause of the accident.
