Motorcyclist Seriously Injured in East Village Crash at Market and 13th Streets
SAN DIEGO, CA (June 20, 2022) – A motorcyclist was seriously injured after a crash at Market and 13th streets in East Village.
According to an article published by the San Diego Union-Tribune, the accident took place on Monday afternoon. Officers reported the wreck shortly before 5 p.m.
The incident happened when a tow truck driver was going west on Market Street, approaching 13th Street, in the East Village neighborhood.
At the same time, a 29-year-old man was riding a Triumph motorcycle south on 13th Street. Police said for an unknown reason, the truck ran a red light at the intersection.
Tow Truck Driver Runs Red Light, Hits Rider
In the process, the vehicle slammed into the rider. Paramedics soon arrived at the scene and found the victim who suffered serious injuries as a result of the collision.
He sustained a ruptured spleen, open fractures to the two bones in his lower left leg and a fracture to his left foot. Medical personnel then rushed the motorcyclist to the hospital for treatment.
The report did not release the name of the wounded man and his condition at this time. Meanwhile, officers forced the area of Market and 13th streets to shut down following the wreck.
Police did not mention if the 42-year-old man driving the tow truck ended up hurt or if he stayed after hitting the rider. The cause of the East Village crash is still under investigation.
