2 Pedestrians Hit by Car on 14th Street in East Village Sunday
SAN DIEGO (July 14, 2019) – Two pedestrians were injured, one seriously, after an alleged hit-and-run crash along 14th Street in the East Village neighborhood early Sunday.
Police said the victims were crossing 14th Street when they were struck by a silver 2013 Ford Mustang convertible. The accident took place at about 12:20 a.m.
According to reports by San Diego Union-Tribune and ABC 10 News, the car was headed north when it began making a U-turn in the intersection and spun out of control.
The vehicle then hit the two pedestrians and kept going. It reportedly pushed one of the victims, a 24-year-old woman, forward, over a curb and across the sidewalk.
Woman Pinned Against Car and Building in East Village
Police affirmed that the woman was pinned between the Mustang and a building on J Street. She suffered an open fracture to her lower leg and a hip fracture upon impact.
The other pedestrian involved, a 22-year-old man, sustained abrasions following the collision. Both were rushed to the hospital for treatment.
Their names and condition at this time were not disclosed. Meanwhile, the driver of the Mustang fled on foot and abandoned the car on the sidewalk at 14 and J streets.
Authorities are still gathering more information and evidence to locate the hit-and-run motorist.
