
Eddie Escobedo, 36, ID’d as Suspect in Hesperia Fatal DUI Crash
HESPERIA, CA (January 22, 2023) – Authorities detained Eddie Escobedo after a fatal DUI crash on Highway 395 in Hesperia.
The sheriff’s department determined that the 36-year-old Hesperia man was under the influence of alcohol when the collision occurred.
The incident happened on Saturday when Eddie Escobedo was driving a black 2020 Ford Explorer north on Highway 395 in Hesperia. At the same time, a 2018 Toyota Corolla was going south.
He then crossed into oncoming traffic in front of the Toyota, north of Poplar Street. Deputies said in the process, his car struck the Corolla head-on.
Pregnant Woman Killed in Wreck
The Victor Valley News and FOX 11 News wrote that the wreck took place on January 21 at around 11:40 p.m. A 35-week pregnant woman riding the Toyota and her unborn child died in the accident.
Eddie Escobedo and the male driver of the Corolla sustained major injuries as a result of the collision. Paramedics rushed them to regional trauma centers for treatment.
The reports identified the victims as Nicole Ruddy, 33; and Andrew Ruddy, 36, from Orange. Meanwhile, deputies soon arrested the suspect for gross vehicular manslaughter while intoxicated.
Officers booked Eddie Escobedo into the West Valley Detention Center in lieu of $100,000 bail following the crash. The Hesperia DUI crash is still under investigation.
