DUI Driver Edgar Allan Ernst, 38, Suspect in Yuba County Fatal Wrong-Way Crash
YUBA COUNTY, CA (May 3, 2021) – Authorities detained Edgar Ernst after a fatal DUI crash on Highway 70 in Yuba County.
The California Highway Patrol determined that the 38-year-old Rio Linda man was under the influence of methamphetamine when the wreck occurred last week.
The incident happened on Friday when Edgar Allan Ernst was driving a 1994 Honda Accord north on Highway 70 in Yuba County. At the same time, a 2007 Kia Optima was going south.
CHP said he then traveled across the center divider onto the southbound lanes near Feather River Boulevard. His car continued the wrong-way and slammed into the Kia, before flipping onto its roof.
Both cars obtained major damage as a result of the collision. Action News Now and Appeal Democrat reported the accident on April 30 shortly before 5 a.m.
Brian Allen, 64, Victim in Highway 70 Collision
Firefighters along with the paramedics responded to the scene, south of Marysville. They confirmed that the male driver of the Optima died following the crash.
Officers identified the victim as 64-year-old Brian Allen, a resident of Marysville. They added that Edgar Ernst sustained minor injuries, including laceration of his chin and back pain.
Meanwhile, CHP located a meth pipe in Edgar Ernst’s possession at the crash site. They soon arrested him on gross vehicular manslaughter while intoxicated and DUI causing injury.
Authorities booked the suspect into the Yuba County Jail in lieu of a $250,000 bail. They also charged him with misdemeanor counts of driving on a suspended license and possessing paraphernalia. They
