The incident began when Edgar Suarez Espinosa was driving a 1999 Toyota Tacoma at a high rate of speed west on Sports Arena Boulevard, in the Midway District.
At the same time, a 2015 Toyota Sienna was going north on Rosecrans Street. Police said Edgar Espinosa then struck a center median and his pickup truck went airborne.
The Tacoma landed on top of the minivan stopped at a red light in the intersection. The San Diego Union-Tribune and FOX 5 News wrote that the accident occurred on May 7 shortly after 9 p.m.

Edgar Espinosa sustained major injuries as a result of the crash. The 21-year-old driver of the minivan and a 46-year-old passenger survived with serious injuries.
Paramedics rushed all three patients to the hospital for treatment. The reports did not release the names of the wounded victims and their condition at this time.
