2 Killed in Crash at Hwy 33 and Wood Street in Taft
KERN COUNTY, Calif. (August 23, 2022) — A Bakersfield man and a Tijuana man both died in a suspected DUI crash Sunday night with a semi-truck at Highway 33 and Wood Street in Taft.
Edgar Eduardo Herrera Garcia, 35, of Bakersfield, and Sergio Andres Lopez Mata, 46, from Tijuana, Mexico, are identified as the two passengers from a car who died in the crash with the truck, according to the Taft Midway Driller.
The collision occurred just after 9 p.m. on August 21st, according to the Kern County Coroner. The two men died at the scene of the collision, but the driver of the car and a third passenger survived with major injuries.
Paramedics responded and rushed the driver and only surviving passenger to a hospital.
Meanwhile, police later determined that alcohol was a factor in the collision. They later arrested Flurencio Martinez, 20 of Bakersfield, for vehicular manslaughter and felony drunk driving charges.
The investigation into the crash is ongoing.
