Woman and Eduardo Goncalves Killed in 57 Freeway Car Accident
DIAMOND BAR (October 29, 2017) – A fatal traffic collision took place on the southbound 57 Freeway early Saturday morning, according to The Orange County Register.
The accident was reported at about 2:52 a.m., south of Diamond Bar Boulevard.
As per the article, California Highway Patrol said a Toyota Corolla was headed southbound on the 57 freeway when the driver suddenly struck and collided with the left rear of a flatbed tow truck. The tow truck driver had been assisting a motorist whose vehicle had become disabled along the right-hand shoulder at the time.
Both the driver of the Toyota and his passenger, a 25-year-old Costa Mesa woman, were ejected as a result of the crash. The Corolla was then hit by a Toyota Tacoma driven by 28-year-old Vincent de la Vega, of Santa Ana.
The woman and the driver of the Corolla, 28-year-old Costa Mesa resident Eduardo Lins Goncalves, were both thrown from their car. The female passenger was pronounced dead at the scene while Goncalves was taken to a trauma center, where he later died.
Meanwhile, CHP affirmed that De la Vega’s Tacoma incurred major injuries to the tow driver who had been assisting who was trying to help the occupants of the Corolla.
De La Vega sustained fractured ribs and bruises to his chest and was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence. The incident remains under investigation and anyone with information is asked to contact the CHP’s Baldwin Park office at 626-338-1164.
