
Father of Five Killed in Long Beach Pedestrian Collision
LONG BEACH, Calif. (April 21, 2023) – Edward Corral, 41, is identified as the pedestrian who died after a hit-and-run car accident at Atlantic Avenue and Market Street in Long Beach.
The longtime Long Beach resident, nicknamed “Tito” or “Chico,” was struck by a vehicle around 9:15 p.m. on Friday, April 14th, according to the Long Beach Police Department and MyNewsLA.
The married father of five children ages 4 to 19 years old was taken to a hospital as a “John Doe” as he had no identification with him. His family learned about the collision the next day. He was hooked up to a ventilator and being treated for severe head trauma, brain swelling, leg, rib and hip fractures, KTLA 5 News reports. Despite efforts to save his life, he later died at the hospital on Tuesday, April 19th, police said.
Authorities continue to search for the suspect who fled the scene without stopping to help the injured man.
Police believe the pedestrian was crossing outside of the crosswalk when a northbound vehicle on Atlantic Avenue struck him.
There is no immediate description of the hit-and-run vehicle or suspect. Meanwhile, the family of Edward Corral has a GoFundMe page to cover medical, funeral and other costs.
