
ONTARIO, Calif. (Feb. 24, 2023) — Edward Garcia Jr., 78, of San Bernardino, died early Tuesday in a crash on the westbound 60 Freeway near Grove Avenue in Ontario.
The elderly man suffered major injuries and died at the scene of the crash around 12:20 a.m. on Feb. 21st, according to the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department.
The California Highway Patrol responded to the crash scene about 12 p.m.
They reported the San Bernardino man was driving a 2011 Honda Civic and allegedly used the exit ramp at Grove Avenue to enter the westbound 60 Freeway in Ontario, according to the ABC 7 News and KTLA News.
The motorist entered the freeway traveling in the wrong direction, but attempted to turn around and correct the mistake. However, an oncoming 2014 Toyota Camry collided with the Honda.
Firefighters and paramedics responded to help those injured in the crash, but sadly Edward Garcia Jr. died at the scene.
Meanwhile, a 56-year-old woman driving the Toyota suffered minor injuries in the collision and was treated by paramedics on scene.
Liability for the fatal Ontario crash will be determined by police.
