Hit-and-Run Driver Efrain Gonzalez, 20, Kills Pedestrian in Placerville Crash
PLACERVILLE, CA (May 1, 2021) – Authorities detained Efrain Gonzalez after a fatal hit-and-run crash on Broadway Drive in Placerville.
Police identified the 20-year-old Placerville man as the suspect that killed a pedestrian in a collision last week on Friday night.
The incident began when Efrain Gonzalez was driving an Infiniti G35 east on Broadway Drive in Placerville. At the same time, Richard Ameral was walking along the stretch of the road.

Firefighters along with the paramedics found Richard Ameral left lying on the ground and suffering from major injuries as a result of the collision. They then rushed him to the hospital, where he died.
Meanwhile, police affirmed that Gonzalez initially stopped after hitting the transient pedestrian. He sped away and soon fled east on Broadway Drive.
Officials located him and his car at his home and arrested him. They booked Gonzalez into the El Dorado County Jail for vehicular manslaughter with gross negligence and the hit-and-run causing death.
Authorities set his bail at $225,000. The tragic hit-and-run crash is still under investigation. Anyone with information can call the police at 530-642-5210.
