1 Dead, 3 Injured in Riverside Crash on Buena Vista Avenue
RIVERSIDE, Calif. (Dec. 3, 2021) – Efren Cordova Vazquez, 20, of Compton, died and three people were injured Thursday in a Riverside crash at Buena Vista Avenue at the Mission Inn Avenue overcrossing.
The young man was riding in a car whose teenage driver reportedly lost control and collided with two other vehicles about 2:40 p.m. on Thursday, Dec. 2, according to the Riverside County Sheriff Coroner.
The 19-year-old from Compton was driving a black 2002 Lexus sedan westbound on Buena Vista Avenue, approaching Indian Hill Road.
The car reportedly crossed over into opposing traffic where it crashed head-on with a white 2015 Nissan Sentra around 2:40 p.m., police said. The Lexus went off the roadway and struck a block wall and a 2015 Toyota Camry before it overturned and caught on fire. Efren Cordova Vazquez was riding in the front seat of the Lexus. Sadly, he suffered major injuries and died at the scene, the coroner said. Meanwhile, the teen driving the Lexus suffered moderate injuries. Paramedics transported the driver to Riverside Community Hospital.
Also, the driver and passenger from the Toyota had minor injuries and the Nissan driver was not injured.
The collision took place at the Mission Inn Avenue overcrossing between Riverside and Jurupa Valley.
The cause of the fatal Riverside crash is still under investigation.
