EL CAJON (March 7, 2017)- According to NBC News San Diego, a deadly freak accident took place Monday evening involving a truck near the Los Coches Mobile Homes in an unincorporated area of El Cajon on Aurora Road.
Reports indicate that two men were working on a truck close to 8:00 p.m. The truck’s engine was not working so both men began pushing the vehicle while it remained in neutral out of a driveway. The truck began gaining momentum and suddenly picked up speed.
One of the men identified by the San Diego coroner as David Sterner, 39, of Chula Vista, jumped into the vehicle in an attempt to stop it as it headed toward mobile homes down a steep hill. Sterner was unsuccessful in stopping the vehicle as it struck a drainage ditch killing the man.
Per NBC San Diego, the vehicle belonged to the friend of the 39-year-old Chula Vista man.
No further details have been released and presented at this time as the California Highway Patrol will handle the investigation.
