1 Killed, 1 Injured in El Cajon Crash at Main Street and Avocado Boulevard
EL CAJON, CA (May 1, 2021) – A car crash killed one person and injured another at Main Street and Avocado Boulevard in El Cajon.
According to an article published by the San Diego Union-Tribune, the tragic accident occurred on Saturday morning. Officers reported the wreck at about 7:30 a.m.
The incident happened when a gray Volkswagen Beetle was going west on Main Street, approaching Avocado Boulevard in El Cajon. At the same time, a burgundy Nissan was traveling north on Avocado.
Driver Runs Red Light, Hits Another Car
Police said for an unknown reason the Volkswagen ran a red light and collided with the Nissan in the intersection. The Nissan then slammed into a power box attached to a restaurant nearby.
The driver of the Volkswagen ended up ejected from the vehicle upon impact. Firefighters along with the paramedics responded to the scene and rushed the motorist to a hospital, where they died.
Medical personnel took the driver of the Nissan for treatment of minor injuries. The names of the deceased and wounded parties have not been yet released.
Meanwhile, officials forced the intersection to shut down for several hours following the wreck. The fatal El Cajon crash is still under investigation.
